BONUS ACTIVITY

Last year, the Prime Minister of New Zealand suggested that we should replace the flag with a new, updated design. He invited everyone in New Zealand to come up with their own flag design and submit it.

For this activity, it is your turn to design a new flag. Use any drawing programme that you wish. I would recommend using the Google Drawings programme or the Flag Designer website. It allows you to create a flag in three easy steps. When you are done, take a screenshot of your flag and post it on your blog.

To earn full points you must describe the flag, in words, below the picture. Please tell us what is on the flag and what inspired your design.

Winter Learning Journey/ Day 1 Activity 2

My 5 favourite things about Auckland:

1) In the most parts of Auckland you can see a very large mountain called Rangitoto Island. The volcano is seen in most parts of the city ( You can see Rangitoto from the Sky tower, Harbour bridge, Mission bay beach etc) 

2) The thing that I also enjoy about Auckland is the cultures. What I also like is that you can learn more about the culture in meeting different people. There is a lot of people  that are from different places around the earth that live in New Zealand! 

3) What I like about Auckland as well is that, you can walk along the path walk at Mission Bay. Mission Bay is one of the closest beaches to the city. Plus Mission Bay has an amazing view which is looking straight at Rangitoto island!

4) What I also like about Auckland is that you can explore the Northern coastlines! The Northern coastlines have the most incredible views when the sun is going down! 

5) Last but not least, Auckland has more boats you have ever seen! Auckland has more boats than anywhere else in the world! Auckland's nickname is "The city of Sails"

3 places I like to visit

1. Niue - I like to visit Niue because it as the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen! During the summer it's hot so that's when me and my family head out to the nice, cold beach! Also it's a paradise and a perfect vacation spot!

2. Tonga - I like to visit Tonga because it's my home island! I love to eat coconut and some fresh Ika (fish) from the ocean! What I also like is that it's a where I can have time and space with my family. Finally what I like about Tonga is that when the sun set's it great for you to go out to the city, mostly because they usually setup fireworks for entertainment.

3.Australia - Last but not least Australia, what I like about Australia is that you see things you don't usually see when your in Australia! You can see snakes that come and go, or stay at your house! (YIKES!) What I also like is that most of my family stay in Australia, so that means I have a lot of fun playing with my cousins and seeing my aunties and uncles!

We invented bungee jumping!

Kiwis we the ones who invented the most scariest, dangerous and terrifying activity called 'Bungee Jumping'. The person who invented bungee jumping is AJ Hackett who is a kiwi that lived in Queens town! We needed to learn how to be professionals and learn all the hazards before you LEAP!

Kiwis love meeting new Kiwis!

Kiwis love to meet new kiwis! It good to get along with others and become one of the locals! In New Zealand you see people plying along the beach side or kids running around. But once you get to know the locals you can make long life friends!

New Zealand

New Zealand is filled with loads of cultures. The most known culture in New Zealand is The Maori Culture! Maori's made a deal with the British people back in the 18th century. We celebrate that day and it's called Waitangi day! Now in New Zealand there are over 4 million kiwis living in New Zealand! 3/4 kiwis are living in the North island and the rest is living in Auckland.

Maori History / Winter learning Journey

Maori have a unique culture that was founded around the 1300s when they arrived in New Zealand. Visitors, journalists and tourists from all around the world come to see this beautiful but secret paradise to learn more about the Maori. To this day Maori core still has more to discover but yet not to be found. Maori people belong to tribes (iwi) and have mountain (maunga) and even rivers (awa). New Zealand known as Aotearoa is a small country but with lots of secrets.
