SunSmart

What causes our skins to go brown and damages our skin?

Today we learnt that ultraviolet radiation that comes from the sun, can burn and damage our skins and cause skin cancer. The worst form of skin cancer is melanoma.

  • When the sun is directly above us in the summer (or daylight-saving) months between 11am and 4pm.
  • Most UV radiation/Ultraviolet Radiation reaches us between 12pm and 2pm

  • If there are thin clouds, or patches of clouds, in the sky UV radiation still reaches us.
  • You can get sunburned on a cloudy day, but not on a day when there are thick storm or rain clouds overhead

  1. Hello Charile
I love how you are learning about Sun Smart.
Yes we should always slip, slop, slap and wrap to protect ourselves from the UV radiation.
